The GS Luminometer bacteria monitoring system uses state-of-the art electronics, in a small hand-held design, to measure bacteria concentration levels on any surface. Readings provide a "count" of the number of contaminants on the tested surface; the higher the reading the higher the contamination level. Specially-treated swabs sold separately.
The Luminometer device measures adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the universal energy molecule found in all animal, plant, bacteria, yeast and mold cells.
Microbial contamination contains ATP. When ATP comes into contact with the liquid-stable luciferase/luciferin reagent in the Luminometer testing device, light is emitted in direct proportion to the amount of ATP present, equating to a bacteria contamination measurement.
The system measures the amount of light generated and provides information on the level of contamination in seconds. The higher the reading, the more bacterial contamination present.
Specially treated swabs are used to take samples from the surfaces being tested. Swabs come with the unit and then may be purchased separately.
